Relentless Israeli Bombardment Claims More Civilian Lives in Gaza as Ceasefire Fails

Israeli forces have resumed their devastating campaign against the Gaza Strip following the collapse of a short-lived ceasefire on 18 March, launching deadly air and artillery assaults for the twentieth consecutive day. Civilians across the besieged enclave continue to pay the price, caught in the relentless bombardment that has left neighbourhoods in ruins and families decimated.

The latest airstrikes targeted densely populated residential areas and overcrowded displacement camps, where entire families shelter under makeshift tents. In Khan Younis, southern Gaza, at least eight people were killed, including two women, and over 20 were wounded when Israeli missiles struck a home and nearby tent. Among the dead was Palestinian journalist Islam Maqdad, one of many media workers who have been killed while bearing witness to the ongoing devastation.

Since the ceasefire broke down, 1,309 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3,100 wounded, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The total death toll since 7 October now exceeds 50,000, with over 115,000 injured—figures that reflect not only the ferocity of the assault but also the absence of any international protection for civilians.

Israeli warplanes continued to pound other areas of the Strip, including Rafah and Gaza City, where two people were killed in an airstrike on the Al-Salakhi family home near Ain Jalout School. The situation remains dire in Shujaiya and the northern districts, where bombardments have destroyed homes and trapped families under the rubble.

As Israeli forces expand their ground operations and shelling across the Strip, Palestinians once again find themselves facing an onslaught without shelter, without safe zones, and without the world’s protection. The cries for justice, accountability, and an end to the bloodshed remain unanswered.
