Paris Protesters Demand Sanctions as Gaza Genocide Continues Unabated

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on 12 April near the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris to denounce the ongoing genocide in Gaza and call on the French government to take immediate action against Israel. Organised by the CAPJPO-EuroPalestine collective, the protest aimed to express solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn what many see as France’s complicit silence in the face of mass atrocities.

Participants waved Palestinian flags and held placards reading "Stop the genocide" and "Boycott Israel", while chanting slogans such as "Macron complice!" to denounce the perceived inaction of the French President. The rally, marked by a calm atmosphere and discreet police presence, followed a series of similar mobilisations in recent weeks across the capital, reflecting growing public outrage over France's failure to hold Israel accountable.

Beyond Gaza, demonstrators also criticised French companies accused of collaborating with the Israeli military, urging a boycott of firms such as Carrefour and HP. The organisers called for real sanctions rather than symbolic declarations, accusing the French leadership of hiding behind hollow rhetoric. With France reportedly considering the recognition of the State of Palestine this June, the protest served as a reminder of the enduring commitment of ordinary citizens to Palestinian rights.

Since Israel resumed its assault on Gaza on 18 March, over 1,500 additional Palestinians have been killed, pushing the death toll beyond 50,000—most of them civilians, including thousands of women and children. Despite international rulings, including the International Court of Justice’s order in January to prevent genocide and allow humanitarian aid, violations persist. Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials, including the Prime Minister, over crimes committed during this campaign of extermination.
