Gaza Under Fire as Hamas Rejects Truce Proposal

Israeli airstrikes killed at least 24 Palestinians in Gaza on Friday, including 10 members of a single family, according to local civil defense teams. The attacks came hours after Hamas formally rejected Israel’s latest ceasefire offer, demanding instead an end to what it calls Israel’s "unjust blockade" that has choked off humanitarian aid for over six weeks.

Despite mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S., negotiations remain deadlocked. Hamas insists any deal must include a permanent ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal—conditions Israel rejects. The proposed 45-day truce would have exchanged 10 Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and allowed limited aid, but collapsed over Israel’s demand for Hamas to disarm. Meanwhile, satellite analysis shows Israeli forces now control over half of Gaza, creating a depopulated "buffer zone."

The humanitarian crisis has reached catastrophic levels, with UN agencies warning this may be Gaza’s worst phase yet. Desperate residents report eating sea turtles to survive. "We’d never consider this if not for starvation," said fisherman Abdul Halim Qanan. Israel continues to block all aid deliveries, accusing Hamas of diversion—a claim the group denies.

The war’s toll now exceeds 51,000 Palestinian deaths according to Gaza’s health ministry, while 58 Israeli hostages remain captive in Gaza. As violence escalates, international calls for intervention grow louder, but diplomatic solutions appear increasingly out of reach.
