In the shadow of a communications blackout and a war that has silenced international media presence, Palestinians in Gaza are refusing to be erased. With no stable internet or mobile coverage, their only connection to the outside world comes from a growing network of global activists determined to amplify their voices.
From the US west coast, Moez Mansour, an Egyptian engineer, has become one of the many lifelines. Aware that Egyptian and Israeli networks can still be accessed near the border, he began distributing prepaid SIM cards to Gaza residents. Through his platform, Gaza Online, thousands of donors from around the world have enabled the shipment of tens of thousands of SIM cards—free of charge—to Palestinians who would otherwise be cut off entirely. “Each card,” he says, “is a window to the world, a way to say: we are still here.”
In Canada, artist Jane Shi has taken a similar path. Prioritising journalists and medical workers, she sends recharge credits to ensure those documenting the suffering, or saving lives, are not left voiceless. “One SIM card,” she explains, “can connect an entire family. One donation can connect fifty people. In Gaza, that’s not just communication—it’s survival.”
For many in Gaza, these signals are more than just data. They are a form of resistance. Each connection defies the siege, challenges the silence, and reminds the world that despite every effort to block their voices, Palestinians will continue to speak.
