The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has confirmed that more than 66,000 children in Gaza are now suffering from severe malnutrition, as Israel’s continued blockade suffocates the flow of food and humanitarian aid into the besieged territory.
UNRWA spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna stated on Tuesday that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are surviving on just one meal every two or three days—a consequence of the systematic closure of all crossings since 2 March.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, at least 57 Palestinians—most of them children—have already died due to hunger-related causes. Officials warn that the toll is likely to rise sharply if the blockade is not lifted and life-saving aid allowed to enter immediately.
Palestinian and UN officials are calling for urgent international intervention to end the blockade and ensure the unimpeded entry of food, medicine, fuel, and clean water.
The siege has pushed over two million people to the brink of famine, with children, the elderly, and pregnant women suffering the gravest consequences. In the face of deliberate starvation, the resilience of Gaza’s population stands as a stark testament to survival under siege.
