Barakat: Israel’s Crimes in Gaza Are Fueling Global Rage, Including Attacks Abroad

Palestinian writer and political figure Khaled Barakat has condemned Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, asserting that it is the root cause of growing global anger — including recent violence targeting Israeli representatives abroad.

Barakat, a member of the executive committee of the Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, said the recent shooting near the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C., was not an isolated act but part of a broader reaction to the atrocities committed in Gaza.

“This cannot be separated from the wider political and humanitarian context,” he explained. “What is happening in Gaza — for over 20 months now — is one of the most brutal genocides of the 21st century. Such horror will inevitably provoke anger and resistance, not just in Palestine, but across the world.”

He stressed that Israel, with the unwavering support of the United States and other Western governments, has continued to commit atrocities under the cover of siege, famine, and relentless bombardment. “Tens of thousands have been killed, including thousands of children, while the world remains shamefully silent. No one should be shocked when that silence is met with fury.”

Barakat described the attack in Washington as a reflection of deep-seated pain and frustration with a world order that enables impunity. “When the international community turns its back on the victims, anger doesn’t vanish — it spreads, and it erupts in cities far from the crime scene.”

He concluded: “Occupation is the original crime. Condemning the reaction while remaining silent about the ongoing massacre is an act of complicity.”
