Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto stated on Thursday that the relentless assault on Gaza "no longer holds any military justification" and must come to an immediate halt.
"This war must stop Palestinian civilians are bearing the brunt of the suffering,” Crosetto asserted, noting that Israel’s stated objectives remain unfulfilled, rendering the continued violence indefensible.
In a separate development, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva renewed his condemnation of Israel’s far-right government, accusing it of perpetrating a deliberate genocide in Gaza. During a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Lula declared, “What we are witnessing is not war, but genocide, a systematic slaughter of women and children by one of the world’s most powerful militaries. The world cannot stand by as this atrocity unfolds daily.”
Lula’s remarks echo his previous denunciations of Israel’s actions, which have drawn sharp criticism from Western allies of the occupation state.
The statements follow a surge in Israeli atrocities across Gaza, including mass displacement, indiscriminate attacks on civilians, and the obstruction of vital aid. Several nations, including Spain, Ireland, Britain, Canada, and France, have called for a reassessment of their diplomatic and trade ties with Israel, citing violations of international law and democratic principles.
Multiple governments have issued stern warnings, demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities and threatening punitive measures should the aggression persist.
Meanwhile, Israel’s crippling siege on Gaza continues to block essential supplies, food, medicine, and clean water, pushing the territory towards famine. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that over 54,677 Palestinians have been killed and 125,530 wounded since October 2023, with casualties mounting daily under unrelenting bombardment.
