The relentless Israeli military campaign against Tulkarm city and its two refugee camps, Tulkarm and Nur Shams, has now entered its 158th day, marking a devastating chapter of sustained violence and displacement. The assault, ongoing for nearly five months, has led to the systematic demolition of more than 1,000 homes, each sheltering multiple Palestinian families, forcing over 25,000 people from their homes amid worsening humanitarian conditions.
Researcher Re’am Baddo highlights the scale of destruction and the calculated nature of the attacks, describing a deliberate attempt by Israeli forces not only to dismantle infrastructure but also to erase the very identity of Nur Shams camp. New roads are being constructed through the camp in what appears to be a strategy to alter its demographic and symbolic significance as a living testament to the Palestinian refugee plight.
Despite a recent temporary halt on demolition orders affecting 104 buildings, issued by an Israeli court pending further justification, the violence continues unabated. On 3 July, 61-year-old Walid Hassan Saad Bdeir was shot dead near Nur Shams camp, a grim reminder of the human cost of this ongoing offensive.
With aid blocked and humanitarian conditions deteriorating rapidly, the people of Tulkarm face an increasingly desperate situation, caught in a siege that threatens not only their homes but the very fabric of their community.
