EU and Beijing Sound Alarm as Israel Moves to Reoccupy Gaza: A Palestinian Perspective

The latest Israeli decision to tighten its grip on Gaza has drawn a rare chorus of condemnation from capitals across the globe. European Council President António Costa warned that expanding military operations alongside the continuing blockade, settlement expansion in the West Bank, and the worsening famine not only breach international agreements but also strike at the heart of universal values. His statement hinted at possible consequences for Israel’s relations with the European Union, should the offensive persist.

From Beijing, China’s Foreign Ministry stressed that Gaza remains an integral part of its people’s homeland and urged an immediate ceasefire as the only path to stem the humanitarian disaster. The call underscored growing frustration with the deepening crisis and signalled Beijing’s willingness to work with others to press for a political resolution rooted in long-standing international principles.

France has taken an equally firm stance, describing the plan as a reckless move that risks a complete diplomatic and humanitarian dead end. French officials reiterated their opposition to any forced displacement or full occupation, warning that such measures would only intensify the suffering of civilians and further destabilise the region. With food supplies dwindling, medical systems collapsing, and displacement at unprecedented levels, the mounting global outcry signals a shifting diplomatic landscape, one where silence is no longer an option.
