Gaza Faces Humanitarian Collapse as Aid Access Plummets

Gaza is grappling with a deepening humanitarian crisis, with only a fraction of the aid required reaching its residents due to severe restrictions. Over the past three days, just 250 aid trucks entered the territory, far below the estimated 1,800 needed, leaving basic necessities scarce for a population of around 2.4 million. Authorities warn that the shortage is compounded by looting and a breakdown in civil order, linked directly to ongoing military hostilities.

Since late July, only 2,187 trucks have been allowed into Gaza, representing less than 15% of what is deemed essential to meet the population’s needs. Daily estimates suggest that over 600 trucks are required to sustain residents, particularly as infrastructure has been heavily damaged by continued attacks. Vital goods, including eggs, meat, fish, dairy, fruits, vegetables, and nutritional supplements, remain largely blocked, severely affecting children, pregnant women, and those with medical conditions.

Health and sanitation systems are nearing total collapse, with life-saving medications, baby formula, and nutritional products scarce. The Gaza Government Media Office called on the United Nations, regional actors, and the wider international community to urgently reopen border crossings, allow unrestricted aid deliveries, and pressure Israel to lift the restrictions, warning that failure to act will further deepen the crisis.
