Journalists in Gaza Targeted Amid Genocide, Witnesses Silenced

The systematic targeting of journalists in Gaza has turned reporting on the Strip into one of the deadliest pursuits for the media in modern times. Since the start of the Israeli genocide, at least 189 Palestinian journalists have been killed, including five in a single raid last week. Those who survive work under unimaginable pressure, documenting destruction while struggling to feed their families and aid the injured, all under constant threat of death.

The attacks on reporters are part of a broader effort to control the narrative of the genocide. International outrage has grown, with the Vatican and the UN condemning the collective punishment, and large numbers of the global public recognising the atrocities as genocide. Yet, the targeting of journalists ensures that the world sees only a fraction of the devastation, as witnesses are deliberately silenced. Names such as Fatima Hassouna, Hamza Al-Dahdouh, and Anas Al-Sharif remind the world that entire generations of journalists, and the truth they strive to tell, are being erased.

Despite extreme exhaustion, starvation, and personal loss, Gazan journalists continue their work, often recovering bodies from rubble, assisting the injured, and reporting from frontlines. Their courage highlights the resilience of those who refuse to let the world forget the human cost of Israel’s campaign, and it underscores the urgent need for international protection for those bearing witness under fire.
