The partial withdrawal of Israeli forces from sections of Gaza City on Friday, 10 October 2025, has laid bare the catastrophic scale of destruction across residential districts and vital infrastructure. Entire neighbourhoods lie in ruins, with homes razed, streets cratered, and public facilities obliterated, highlighting the unprecedented devastation left by two years of relentless Israeli bombardment.
Footage shared by journalists and activists on social media depicts flattened homes, demolished streets, and shattered public buildings. Areas around the Saeed Siyam Mosque in Sheikh Radwan and the al-Nasr district in the north-west of the city have suffered some of the worst damage. Entire blocks have been reduced to rubble, roads rendered impassable, and basic services rendered inoperative. Reports indicate that over 670 schools have been destroyed, leaving thousands of students without access to education.
Humanitarian agencies warn that more than two million Palestinians have been forcibly displaced, with aid deliveries blocked for over 600 days. Since 7 October 2023, the ongoing genocidal war has claimed the lives of at least 67,194 Palestinians. As residents cautiously begin to return to the devastated city, the magnitude of loss and the challenges of rebuilding Gaza become starkly evident, underlining the urgent need for sustained humanitarian relief and reconstruction.
