Israeli Parliament Advances Bill to Annex West Bank: Palestinian Resistance Strongly Rejects Move

A bill drafted in Israel’s parliament today to formally incorporate the occupied West Bank has drawn fierce condemnation from the Palestinian resistance movement. The legislation, initially approved by the Knesset, aims to impose Israeli sovereignty over the entirety of the West Bank and specifically annex the settlement of Ma’ale Adumim. While the bill has passed its first reading, it still requires three further votes before full enactment.

In a forceful statement, the resistance body described the move as a blatant attempt to legalise settlement expansion and impose control over Palestinian lands in stark violation of international law. They held the Israeli state fully accountable for the consequences of this policy and appealed to international institutions to denounce and act against these annexation efforts.

The group reaffirmed that such annexation plans are null and void, asserting that the West Bank remains Palestinian territory, historically, legally, and according to the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice in 2024. They pointed out that the ICJ had already declared the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories unlawful and mandated its end.

They also welcomed the tribunal’s separate ruling this week that Israel must cooperate with UN agencies to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza, rejecting Israel’s allegations of bias against the refugee agency responsible for Palestinian aid. In their view, the ruling exposes the genocidal nature of the occupation, particularly when famine is systematically used as a war tactic.

The statement made clear that, despite repeated Israeli breaches, the resistance remains committed to the terms of the cease-fire negotiated earlier. They called on the international community to ensure immediate access to humanitarian supplies and to prevent any further politicisation of relief efforts.
