Ceasefire in Name Only: New Israeli Strikes Shatter Gaza’s Fragile Calm

The so-called ceasefire in Gaza once again crumbled under Israeli fire on Monday, as air and drone strikes tore through eastern Khan Younis and Gaza City, wounding civilians and flattening homes. The attacks came despite the truce officially remaining in place, underscoring how fragile and hollow such agreements have become for the people of Gaza.

Witnesses described the horror in Abasan al-Kabira, where drones targeted a group of residents, leaving several injured. Simultaneously, warplanes pounded neighbourhoods on the outskirts of Khan Younis while armoured units detonated explosives in residential zones along the “yellow line.” Military vehicles also opened fire in the same area, and drones dropped explosives near displacement camps around the Shuja’iyya junction, spreading panic among families already living in tents.

Further north, Israeli forces demolished entire blocks of homes in eastern Gaza City, compounding an already catastrophic humanitarian situation. Since the truce took effect on 11 October, local figures indicate that at least 93 Palestinians have been killed and more than 324 wounded, a grim reminder that even during so-called ceasefires, Gaza continues to bleed.

For the enclave’s residents, the term “truce” has become painfully meaningless. Each new strike not only erases lives and homes but also shatters the faint hope that peace could ever take root under siege and occupation.
