Teenager Killed Amid Escalating Military Operations in Southern West Bank

Israeli forces opened fire on the town of Tuqu, southeast of Bethlehem, on Monday evening, fatally wounding 17-year-old Ammar Yasser Sabbah. Local officials reported that troops entered the centre of the town, firing live ammunition, while chaotic encounters left several residents struggling for breath amid the use of stun and tear gas devices. Ammar was rushed to a nearby health facility but succumbed to his injuries, his body later transferred to a hospital in Beit Jala.

The same night, Israeli soldiers also fired on a young man near al-Ram, northeast of Jerusalem, hitting him in the knee, while another teenager was injured in both legs during earlier exchanges. These incidents are part of a broader pattern of military operations and violence affecting Palestinian communities across the West Bank since the outbreak of the genocidal war in Gaza in October 2023, which has claimed tens of thousands of lives in the besieged coastal territory.

Human rights groups have warned of increasing ethnic targeting and the systematic displacement of Palestinian communities, highlighting the risks posed by both military operations and settler activity. More than a thousand Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, with thousands more injured, and over twenty thousand detained by Israeli forces. The International Court of Justice has repeatedly deemed the prolonged occupation of historic Palestine illegal and called for the dismantling of all Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, yet the occupation and military operations continue unabated.
