The supposed calm in Gaza fractured again on Monday as renewed fire from the air, land and sea punctured the ceasefire now in its seventy-fourth day. Multiple incidents were reported across the Strip, with gunfire, shelling and drone activity striking residential areas from Gaza City to Rafah, deepening fears that the truce exists largely on paper amid a continuing genocidal war.
In the east of Gaza City, lives were lost in Shuja’iyya after gunfire hit civilians during the early hours. Later in the day, a drone-dropped explosive detonated near a busy roundabout east of the Al-Bureij refugee camp, leaving several people wounded. Medical staff in central Gaza confirmed the arrival of injured civilians following the blast, which local residents said came from a low-flying quadcopter hovering over the area.
Elsewhere, artillery fire reached the outskirts of villages and refugee camps in the central Strip, while eastern Khan Younis was struck repeatedly from the air across the day. Northern Rafah was also targeted by gunfire and bombardment, as helicopters and military vehicles opened fire in densely populated zones, including Jabalia and neighbourhoods east of Gaza City. Demolition activity was observed in the south-eastern districts of the city, adding to the destruction already inflicted during the genocidal war.
Officials in Gaza say these incidents are part of a wider pattern. Since the ceasefire took effect in early October, hundreds of violations have been recorded, resulting in hundreds of deaths, more than a thousand injuries and dozens of arrests. Despite formal commitments to de-escalation, the reality on the ground continues to be shaped by persistent violence against civilians.
