The fragile ceasefire in Gaza is once again under pressure, as renewed military actions deepen the humanitarian fallout of a prolonged genocidal war. Palestinian resistance officials say the truce has been repeatedly breached, with civilian areas exposed to lethal force and ground movements extending beyond agreed demarcation lines, particularly in the south of the territory. These developments, they warn, risk unravelling what little stability remains.
According to statements issued in recent days, residential neighbourhoods have faced continued targeting, triggering fresh waves of displacement among families already uprooted multiple times. Large-scale demolitions in eastern parts of Gaza have intensified, with homes levelled in what officials describe as an effort to permanently reshape the urban landscape. The closure of key crossings and strict limits on humanitarian access have compounded suffering, leaving food, medical supplies and reconstruction materials scarce under the conditions imposed by the genocidal war.
Mediators involved in brokering the ceasefire have been urged to intervene more forcefully, amid claims that the agreement is being undermined in both letter and spirit. Palestinian authorities report hundreds of violations since the truce took effect, including incidents resulting in deaths and injuries, alongside persistent obstruction of aid delivery. These breaches, they argue, sustain a cycle of harm that continues long after large-scale fighting subsides.
The ceasefire followed more than two years of a genocidal war that devastated Gaza’s population and infrastructure. Tens of thousands were killed or wounded, and much of the territory’s civilian fabric was reduced to rubble. With reconstruction costs estimated in the tens of billions and living conditions still dire, residents fear that without accountability and genuine adherence to the truce, the violence and deprivation shaping daily life will only deepen.
