US Lawmaker Urges Halt to Arms Transfers as Gaza Killings Continue

A member of the US Congress has warned that claims of a ceasefire in Gaza ring hollow while civilians continue to die under bombardment enabled by foreign weapons. Delia Ramirez said Washington remains directly implicated in the bloodshed by continuing military assistance to Tel Aviv, arguing that US-supplied munitions are still being used in attacks across the besieged enclave despite repeated diplomatic assurances.

In a public statement, Ramirez pointed to recent strikes that killed dozens of Palestinians, including children, and rejected suggestions that the situation on the ground has stabilised. She called on Congress to reassert its constitutional authority over foreign military aid and to back her proposed legislation, the Block The Bombs Act, which would prohibit the transfer and use of certain heavy munitions. “Not one more bomb and not one more dollar,” she said, framing the issue as a moral test for lawmakers amid what she described as a genocidal war.

Her intervention comes as the US administration moves forward with large arms packages for Israel, amounting to several billion dollars and covering attack helicopters, tactical vehicles and armoured vehicle components, alongside long-term logistical support. Critics argue that these approvals deepen American complicity at a moment when Gaza’s death toll continues to rise, overwhelmingly among women and children, and when international pressure is mounting for accountability. Other lawmakers, including senior senators, have echoed calls to suspend military aid, warning that continued transfers undermine both international law and Washington’s credibility.
