February Sees Sharp Rise in Occupation Violence Against Palestinians in Jerusalem

Occupied Jerusalem experienced a surge in violations against Palestinian residents and their holy sites throughout February 2026, continuing into the first days of Ramadan. On 18 February, Nasser Allah Abu Siyam from Mukhmas was shot dead by settlers, while 15-year-old Mustafa Abu Madhkur was critically injured during an incursion into Al-Eizariya, with ambulances blocked from providing urgent care. Pro Palestine activists view these attacks as part of a deliberate escalation of violence against civilians.

Settler incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque intensified, with 4,882 recorded during the month, peaking on 17 February. Palestinian worshippers faced strict restrictions, including limits on numbers from the West Bank, bans on bringing in iftar and suhoor meals, arrests, home confinement, and targeting of mosque staff and imams. These measures are seen as an effort to restrict religious life and access to sacred sites.

Demolitions and land confiscations also continued, with 38 operations targeting homes, agricultural buildings, and land in Beit Hanina, Silwan, Einata, and Abu Dis under the pretext of “military purposes”. Palestinian housing projects and civil associations were targeted, churches attacked, and a branch of the US consulate opened in the settlement of Efrat. For pro Palestine supporters, February’s events highlight a systematic policy of oppression and displacement, reflecting the occupation’s ongoing efforts to erode Palestinian presence and consolidate control over Jerusalem.
