Palestinian prisoners immediately need COVID-19 vaccine

Prisoners and Executives Affairs Authority revealed on Sunday a set of claims and procedures which have been and will be submitted to the Israeli government to provide Coronavirus vaccine to the Palestinian prisoners and detainees inside the prisons.

“The legal unit, through a specialized team of its lawyers, submitted a preparatory letter to a petition addressed to the Minister of Public Security, the legal advisor to the Prisons Authority, and the Israeli Public Prosecution demanding administering the vaccine against COVID-19 to the prisoners,” the authority stated in a statement received by Safa.

Depriving prisoners and detainees of the vaccine was objected, especially after the Minister of Public Security media statement about his refusal to give them Coronavirus vaccine, as well as his instructions that the vaccine be given only to prisoners and staff working for the Prisons Authority.

The authority indicated that it would work on preparing a petition for the Israeli Supreme Court, in case the Ministry of public Security did not agree to the prisoners demands.

A group of Israeli human rights organizations had submitted a petition in this regard, demanding providing the vaccine to all prisoners in Israeli prisons, whether they are criminal, civilian, or security personnel.

The authority held the Israeli government and the prison administration fully responsible for the lives of all prisoners and detainees.

In addition, It called on the World Health Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross to immediately intervene to stop the isolation of prisoners and detainees, to end the exploitation of this global pandemic to retaliate against them, and to stop implementing the Israeli racist policies in dealing with them.
