An international flotilla preparing to sail towards Gaza is expected to proceed despite the deportation of two prominent activists detained following the interception of an earlier mission. Saif Abu Keshk, a Palestinian-Spanish activist, was deported to Greece, while Brazilian campaigner Thiago Ávila was transferred to Egypt after several days in Israeli custody.
Both men have since spoken of harsh treatment during their detention, including what supporters described as systematic abuse and degrading prison conditions. Organisers involved in the flotilla campaign said the experience reflected broader attempts to deter international solidarity efforts seeking to challenge the blockade imposed on Gaza during the ongoing genocidal war.
Coalition representatives meeting in Türkiye confirmed that around 70 vessels remain prepared to continue the mission towards Gaza in the coming period. The initiative brings together activists, humanitarian organisations and volunteers from multiple countries, many of whom say they are determined to continue despite mounting pressure and repeated interception threats.
Supporters of the campaign argue that the flotilla is intended to draw international attention to the humanitarian situation inside Gaza, where shortages of food, medicine and essential supplies continue to deepen. Organisers insist the maritime effort will continue as part of wider attempts to break the blockade and maintain global pressure over conditions in the territory.
