Medical officials in Gaza said on Saturday that hospitals across the territory had received the bodies of eight Palestinians over the past 48 hours, including one recovered from beneath the rubble, while a further 29 people were reported injured. The latest figures add to a growing toll that has continued to rise months after the announcement of a ceasefire that many residents say has brought little meaningful safety on the ground.
Health authorities warned that numerous victims are still believed to be trapped under collapsed buildings or lying in inaccessible areas, as emergency crews and civil defence teams remain unable to reach several locations because of ongoing destruction and dangerous conditions. Families searching for missing relatives continue to face severe obstacles amid the widespread devastation left by Israel’s genocidal war on the enclave.
According to the updated figures, 890 Palestinians have been killed and more than 2,600 wounded since the ceasefire came into effect in October last year. Since the beginning of the genocidal war in October 2023, the overall death toll in Gaza has reportedly risen to 72,783, with at least 172,779 others injured, underscoring the catastrophic humanitarian situation still unfolding across the territory.
