Humanitarian conditions in Gaza are deteriorating rapidly as severe restrictions on aid deliveries continue to leave much of the territory without sufficient food, fuel and basic supplies ahead of Eid al-Adha. Local officials say the ongoing Israeli blockade and genocidal war have pushed daily life to breaking point for more than two million Palestinians already enduring mass displacement, hunger and collapsing public services.
According to figures released on Monday, only a small fraction of the agreed number of aid convoys has been allowed into Gaza in recent weeks. Officials say the shortage of fuel has become particularly critical, severely affecting bakeries, hospitals and essential infrastructure. Despite previous understandings calling for hundreds of trucks to enter the enclave each day, the actual number permitted through crossings remains far below humanitarian needs, deepening fears of famine and further social collapse.
The crisis has also cast a shadow over preparations for Eid al-Adha, with livestock and sacrificial animals now almost entirely absent from local markets. Traders say years of restrictions, combined with the destruction caused by the genocidal war, have devastated supply chains and sent prices soaring beyond the reach of most families. Residents describe increasingly empty markets and worsening shortages of basic necessities as living conditions continue to deteriorate across the territory.
Calls are mounting for international pressure to secure the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid, fuel and commercial goods into Gaza. Relief organisations and local authorities warn that without immediate action, the humanitarian catastrophe is likely to intensify further during one of the most significant periods of the Islamic calendar.
