SAFA- Informed sources have revealed details of the ongoing negotiations in Cairo aimed at finalizing a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, attended by the negotiating delegation of Hamas. The sources said an agreement had been reached on the employee file, while discussions on weapons collection and storage stipulate that the process would be overseen by a Palestinian body.

The sources told Felesteen newspaper that extensive discussions were held on the fifth clause concerning the rights of government employees, and an agreement was reached.

They said outstanding employee dues are estimated at around $1 billion. It was also agreed that the security screening process would not result in the exclusion of any employee and that both their previous and future rights would be protected.

According to the sources, all government employees will be gradually integrated. Some will retain their current positions; others will be reassigned to different government posts, while a number of employment contracts will be terminated with guarantees of their previous and future rights, as well as fair compensation.

Regarding the eighth clause on weapons, the sources said it remains under discussion, adding that negotiation sessions resumed last night.

The sources said the clause addresses only heavy weapons and does not cover light weapons or the resistance’s infrastructure.

They stressed that the collection and storage of weapons would be entrusted to a Palestinian body, the National Committee for Gaza Administration, and not to any non-Palestinian party.

The sources added that the agreement requires the dismantling of militias affiliated with the Israeli occupation and the handover of their weapons to the National Committee.

They also noted that the collection and storage of weapons would be fully linked to a gradual Israeli withdrawal on the ground.

According to the sources, the agreement is also expected to include a provision stating that it should ultimately lead to a permanent political solution that guarantees the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

The sources expressed optimism that a full agreement on the eighth clause concerning weapons could be reached by today.

Israeli Obligations

The sources said that, within 14 days of signing the agreement, Israel would be required to return to the original boundaries of the so-called “Yellow Line” in accordance with the Trump plan, reopen the border crossings, allow the entry of 600 aid trucks, including 50 fuel trucks, and halt military operations on the ground, including assassinations.

During the same 14-day period, timelines would be established for implementing procedures related to the inventory and storage of weapons, the deployment of the administrative committee, and the implementation schedule for the remaining provisions of the first phase of the agreement, as well as the second phase.

However, the sources said the success of the agreement ultimately depends on the Israeli government’s acceptance of its terms and its willingness to implement them.
