SAFA-  A Palestinian monitoring group has warned that recent attacks by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank signal a growing, coordinated effort to forcibly expel Palestinians and consolidate control over land.

In its weekly report, the National Bureau for Defending Land and Resisting Settlements said a series of recent attacks, including incidents in the towns of Tal, Qaryut, Al-Mughayyir, and Deir Jarir, demonstrate an escalation in settler violence that is no longer isolated but part of a coordinated system.

The report centered on a deadly incident on July 24 in the town of Tal that it said started as what the Israeli occupation called a “hiking march” by settlers in the vicinity of the area, classified as Area B under the Oslo Accords. 

The situation later escalated into violence, with fatalities reported after Israeli forces opened fire, reportedly under the pretext of protecting the march.

According to the report, the events illustrate a high level of coordination on the ground between settlers and Israeli forces.

 It added that reactions within the Israeli occupation following the incident ranged from calls to erase the town to directives from military leadership to expand operations in the West Bank.

The bureau said such statements reflect official incitement and provide political and military cover for settler attacks.

The report further stated that settler violence, extending from the Jordan Valley to Masafer Yatta, has intensified since the beginning of the year and is increasingly integrated with broader Israeli policies and administrative practices in the territory.

It also pointed to support from the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with particular reference to far-right ministers including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Defense Minister Israel Katz.

This support is manifested in political support, direct and indirect military protection for settlers and attempts to increase territorial control, including through the use of outposts to pressure Palestinian communities, especially agricultural and pastoral populations, to leave their land, the report said.

The bureau also emphasized that a lack of accountability has contributed to the continuation of such incidents, saying perpetrators often operate with broad impunity, encouraging further escalation.

The report comes amid ongoing tensions in the West Bank and growing international attention on settlers' violence in the territory.
