UN coordinator arrives in Gaza and meets Hamas leadership

The United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, arrived in the Gaza Strip, accompanied by an eight-person delegation, through the Beit Hanoun/Erez checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip.

Wennesland will meet, during his visit to Gaza, the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas leadership, according to local sources.

The source indicated that during the meeting between the two sides, several files will be discussed, the most important of which are the reconstruction of Gaza, the lifting of the siege, and the consolidation of the ceasefire.

Since the ceasefire was announced on May 21 between the resistance factions and Israel, there has been intense movement and there has been progressing in files related to returning the situation to before the battle of the Sword of Jerusalem in the Gaza Strip.

The sources said that the leadership of the resistance held bilateral meetings and contacts with Egypt, Qatar, and the United Nations, in the context of intensifying efforts to stabilize the ceasefire.

Since Israel launched its aggression on the Gaza Strip on May 11, it has continued to close the only Kerem Shalom commercial crossing in the Gaza Strip, preventing the entry of goods and food supplies and pumping industrial diesel to operate the only power station, in addition to reducing the fishing area to only 6 miles, and preventing entry or the exit of travelers and humanitarian cases through the Beit Hanoun checkpoint.
