The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas said on June 27, on the anniversary of the annexation of Jerusalem that the annexation is an "unstoppable Zionist scheme," yet met by "an unabated Palestinian challenge."
"Fifty-four years after the ill-fated Zionist decision to “annex” the Holy City from the East and consider it politically and administratively under the sovereignty of the occupation. On (June 27, 1967) the occupation decided to consider Jerusalem and its Eastern part as "their" capital," said the movement in a statement.
"With this decision, the occupation widely opened the door to spreading colonial cancer in the mountains of Jerusalem and its environs. The actual implementation of this decision began with the establishment of the first cornerstone by the Zionist occupation in the first Jewish presence in the Holy Sanctuary," the movement added.
Moreover, the movement stressed that "The anniversary of this ill-fateful decision passes through while the occupation rages ferocious war on Jerusalem, and the attempts to Judaize and divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque are planting their fangs deep in the holy city of Jerusalem. Under the pretext of Trump administration’s decision to consider Jerusalem as the capital of the occupation, the latter carries out the assaults trying to draw a fictitious “sovereignty” over Jerusalem by imposing measures on Al-Aqsa Mosque and changing landmarks in the Old City, tightening the noose on Jerusalemites, pursuing them and displacing them from Jerusalem."
"The occupation's practices and attempts to demolish Al-Bustan and Batn Al-Hawa neighborhoods and displace our people from Sheikh Jarrah's neighborhood today is a continuation of that ill-fateful decision and an expression of the occupation's mentality of ethnic cleansing and genocide," it continued.
Meanwhile, in the face of this imminent danger against Jerusalem, Hamas affirmed the following:
First: We salute and honor our people in Jerusalem who are stationed and steadfast in their places as they constitute a protective shield for Jerusalem and a sword that defends it. Salute is extended to all our Palestinian people in the West Bank, the occupied interior, and the diaspora for their efforts in defending and raising the cause of Jerusalem.
Second: The blessed battle of "Sword Al-Quds" was the best response to the so-called “annexation” law, as it turned the table over the head of the occupation on the day it thought it had control to the demarcation of facts in Jerusalem, and to assault our people in Jerusalem with oppression and displacement without expecting the Palestinian people to respond until the resounding response came from Gaza and the rest of Palestine.
Third: We call on the masses of our people to continue to rise up for Jerusalem, and confront the occupier whenever it dares to attack Al-Aqsa or our people in Jerusalem and to consider the battle of "Sword of Al-Quds" as a continuous battle until the occupation stops its aggression.
Fourth: We call on the Arab and Islamic world to be responsible and take their role in preserving the identity of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to take a decisive stand against the normalization that emboldened the occupation to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque and kill children in Gaza.
Fifth: The international community must stand by the Palestinian right with regard to Jerusalem, which is supported by several United Nations resolutions issued after the occupation’s decision to “annex” Jerusalem in 1967, all of which stipulated the invalidity of the occupation’s decision and procedures.
Sixth: We will remain loyal to Jerusalem and its people, and we call on the masses of the Palestinian people to confront the malicious intent of the occupation against Al-Bustan, Batn Al-Hawa, and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhoods, and not leave them alone facing the occupation, the fate of displacement, arrest, and demolition of homes. The resistance in Gaza will remain support and backer for our people.
It concluded that "Al-Quds will remain the greatest concern, the compass of conflict, and the ultimate hope and liberation."
