Critical deterioration in Abo Atwan's health after 62 days of hunger strike

The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission warned of the health situation of the prisoner Ghadanfar Abo Atwan, 28, who has been on a hunger strike for 62 days in protest of his administrative detention.

The commission said in a statement that Abo Atwan suffered from a severe lack of fluids in his body, especially after he refrained from drinking water which might result in a malfunction in his organic parts.

It said that Abo Atwan lost 15 kg weight, and suffered from tachycardia.

It mentioned that the occupation authorities refused to release him or to transfer him to one of the Palestinian hospitals, even after the Israeli court decided to suspense his administrative detention.

It also expressed its deep concerns, lest the medical staff tends to feed him by force, which violates his rights in all international laws because any medical intervention aims to increase his suffering.

It finally called on the International Committee of the Red Crescent and all human rights organizations to visit the prisoner Abo Atwan and to act to save his life before it is too late.
