BBC Broadcasting Company dismissed the Palestinian journalist Tala Halawa following an old tweet she published in 2014 in which she expressed her solidarity with the Gaza strip in light of the massacres Israel committed in the Shejaiya neighborhood, which resulted in 55 civilians killed, including 19 children and 14 women during 48 hours.
"The dismissal came after a month of interior investigation where the company ignored evaluating my professional performance and my colleagues' requests to give testimonies on my profession," Halawa said.
"The campaign started after my appearance in a report for the BBC talking about the price the global celebrities pay when they supporting the Palestinian cause. Immediately after the report was published, extremist groups supporting Israel started to dig in my Twitter account," she added.
"Despite the physical and psychological effects that resulted from the investigation the BBC conducted with me, the company made me a mute spectator as I cannot say my position on what is happening. Extremist trained groups attacked me to destroy my reputation and end my future career," she commented.
The journalist Halawa expressed her sadness of BBC's behavior and said: "instead of supporting, defending and protecting me as a journalist who worked in their company and had an extraordinary professional record, it gave up on me to those extremist groups."
"My dismissal is a success story to those campaigns which aim to silence the Palestinian voices," she said.
Halawa noted that since 2017 when she started working with the BBC, she has never been exposed to any criticism for her journalistic work and professionalism. Instead, she used to receive several thanks messages for her work; the latest was for her participation in covering events during the latest Israeli war on Gaza.
