The UN Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt) said that it is deeply concerned about the death in custody of a Palestinian man in Israeli detention in West Jerusalem.

The death of 43-year old Abd Yusuf al-Khatib al-Tamimi from the Shu’fat refugee camp in East Jerusalem was announced by the Israeli Prison Service on 21 July 2021.

He had reportedly been arrested by Israeli Security Forces on Sunday 18 July over a traffic violation.

The UN Human Rights Offices urged Israeli authorities to release the autopsy report and to pursue an independent and transparent investigation into al-Tamimi’s death.

Tamimi has four children and his wife is pregnant.
