UN Secretary-General António Guterres declared on Friday evening that the "catastrophe" in Gaza represents a "complete collapse of our shared humanity" amid the continuation of the Israeli genocide against the Gaza Strip, now stretching over 14 months.
In a post on X, Guterres stated, "The catastrophe in Gaza is nothing less than a complete collapse of our shared humanity." He added, "This nightmare in Gaza must stop."
The UN chief stressed that "we cannot continue to ignore what is happening" in Gaza.
Since 7 October 2023, Israel — with US support — has been committing acts of genocide in Gaza. The ongoing assault has resulted in over 150,000 Palestinian casualties, including martyrs and injured, the majority of whom are children and women. More than 11,000 people are reported missing amid widespread destruction and famine, which has claimed the lives of dozens of children and elderly individuals, marking one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate halt to the violence and International Court of Justice orders to prevent acts of genocide and improve Gaza's catastrophic humanitarian conditions, Israel continues its massacres unabated.
