The Government Media Office in Gaza issued a press release on Tuesday, highlighting the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, exacerbated by the ongoing Israeli military offensive. As the conflict enters its 430th day, casualties and destruction continue to mount amidst international silence and a relentless blockade. The statement reports over 55,758 deaths, including 17,712 children and 12,136 women, with many more missing. Israeli forces have obliterated 1,410 Palestinian families, killing 5,444 people in these attacks. Beyond the tragic loss of life, over two million people have been displaced, many living in dire conditions in temporary shelters, with over 110,000 tents now uninhabitable.
Infrastructure Collapse
The statement also outlines the severe damage to Gaza’s infrastructure, with 86% of it destroyed. More than 160,500 homes have been flattened, and 83,000 are no longer habitable. Critical health facilities have been targeted, leaving 34 hospitals and 80 health centres non-operational. The destruction of 135 ambulances has further hindered the delivery of urgent medical care.
Health Crisis Worsens
Gaza is facing an escalating public health crisis, with over 2.1 million cases of infectious diseases, including 71,338 cases of hepatitis. Approximately 60,000 pregnant women lack access to prenatal care, while 12,500 cancer patients are experiencing life-threatening treatment delays. Additionally, 12,650 injured individuals urgently need to be transferred abroad for medical treatment.
Education in Ruins
Israeli attacks have also crippled Gaza’s education sector. 132 schools and universities have been destroyed, leaving 785,000 students without access to education. The death toll includes 12,780 students and 755 educators, highlighting the severe impact on Gaza’s future.
Cultural and Religious Destruction
Gaza’s cultural and religious heritage has also been targeted. 819 mosques have been destroyed, 206 archaeological sites severely damaged, and three churches attacked. Even cemeteries have not been spared.
An Urgent Call for Action
In its conclusion, the Government Media Office called on the international community and human rights organisations to act swiftly to stop the Israeli offensive against Gaza’s civilians. The office urged the lifting of the blockade and the opening of border crossings to provide crucial humanitarian aid and save thousands of lives.
This statement is a powerful plea for global intervention to address the escalating crisis in Gaza.
