On Thursday morning, Israel’s National Security Minister, the far-right Itamar Ben-Gvir, stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, accompanied by dozens of Jewish settlers. Jerusalemite sources reported that the Israeli occupation forces deployed special security units, including armed police and special forces, throughout the mosque’s courtyards to ensure Ben-Gvir’s protection during the incursion.
Ben-Gvir entered the mosque through the Bab al-Maghariba (Moroccan Gate), which has been under Israeli control since 1967, on the first day of the so-called Jewish holiday, Eid al-Anwar. This provocative action highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding Al-Aqsa, a site of deep religious and cultural significance for Palestinians and Muslims worldwide.
The storming of Al-Aqsa by Ben-Gvir continues to fuel anger and concern, as such actions contribute to the instability surrounding one of Islam's holiest sites. The Israeli government’s policies and the growing far-right influence have only deepened the divide, exacerbating the already volatile situation in Jerusalem and across the occupied Palestinian territories.
