The Director General of Gaza’s Government Media Office, Ismail Al-Thawabtah, condemned the assassination of five journalists by Israeli occupation forces at dawn today, describing it as yet another crime added to Israel’s long record of heinous violations against humanity and press freedom.
Al-Thawabtah said: "Israel’s assassination of five Palestinian journalists has brought the death toll of journalists since the beginning of the genocide in Gaza to 201. This systematic silencing of the truth seeks to prevent the Palestinian voice from reaching the world."
He continued: "This heinous crime demonstrates the occupation’s determination to muzzle voices and target the witnesses of truth, flagrantly violating international laws and conventions that safeguard journalists in conflict zones."
Al-Thawabtah stressed that the targeting of journalists extends beyond their direct killing. It includes the bombing of their offices, homes, and equipment, constituting a grave breach of international conventions that guarantee journalists’ freedom to perform their duties without fear or threat.
He warned that such continuous crimes, coupled with international silence, pave the way for further violations. He called on international organisations to act immediately to halt this ongoing bloodshed and prevent future atrocities.
"The Israeli occupation bears full responsibility for these heinous crimes. We urge the international community, human rights organisations, and global press unions to fulfil their legal and moral obligations, to stop these crimes urgently, and to hold the perpetrators accountable," Al-Thawabtah stated.
He concluded by affirming that Palestinian journalists will remain the voice of truth despite all attempts to silence them. They will continue to document crimes against journalists and the Palestinian people, standing firm in their commitment to justice and truth.
At dawn today, Israeli occupation forces murdered five Palestinian journalists by targeting a satellite broadcast vehicle belonging to Al-Quds Today Channel in front of Al-Awda Hospital in the Al-Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.
The journalists killed were Faisal Abu Al-Qumsan, Ayman Al-Jadi, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh Ali, Fadi Hassouna, and Mohammed Al-Ladah.
Since 7 October 2023, Israel has been waging a genocidal war against the Gaza Strip, resulting in 45,361 fatalities, the majority of whom were women and children, and injuring 107,803 others.
