International media have highlighted the severe repercussions of banning the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) amid the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza.
A report by The Wall Street Journal warned that Israeli legislation could soon paralyse UNRWA's activities, leaving the agency unable to provide critical services within a month. The report stated that "the ban exacerbates the economic crisis in the West Bank and risks political instability. In Gaza, it threatens to dismantle essential aid networks, compounding the dire humanitarian situation caused by conflict and hunger."
In Haaretz, an article described the destruction of Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, asserting that "the goal of the Israeli army was devastation, not the recovery of hostages," as the area endured its third military operation, leaving all buildings reduced to rubble.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported that Israel faces a war bill of $11 billion, straining its economy and deepening political divisions. Labour shortages due to reservist call-ups have hit key sectors like construction and tourism, slowing growth to just 0.4% last year—the lowest among developed nations. Analysts warn that austerity measures may hinder Israel’s economic recovery in the coming year.
