Palestinian Ministry of Health: Northern Gaza Faces Health Catastrophe Amid Genocidal War

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has declared a catastrophic collapse of the healthcare sector in northern Gaza as essential medical supplies dwindle and hospitals remain out of service due to Israeli attacks.

In a press statement, the Ministry revealed that the Indonesian Hospital, one of the last operational facilities in the region, has ceased operations following direct assaults by Israeli occupation forces. “The hospital is no longer able to provide services to patients or the wounded,” the Ministry stated.

Northern Gaza, which previously relied on three public hospitals—Kamal Adwan, Beit Hanoun, and the Indonesian Hospital—has been left without any medical services after all three facilities were deliberately targeted and destroyed by Israeli forces. The Ministry reported that Israeli troops stormed the Indonesian Hospital, threatening staff and patients, and ordered an immediate evacuation.

The Ministry has urgently appealed to international organisations and concerned parties to pressure the Israeli occupation to reopen hospitals and allow critical medical aid to reach northern Gaza. The lack of healthcare services now leaves approximately 75,000 residents, including children, pregnant women, and the injured, without access to life-saving treatment.

The humanitarian crisis has been further exacerbated by the Israeli assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital 10 days earlier, during which medical staff were arrested, and the hospital’s director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh, was detained. Departments were burned, and critical resources were destroyed, worsening an already dire situation.

Since the genocidal war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation, with American support, has killed and injured over 154,000 people, the majority of whom are women and children. More than 10,000 individuals remain missing amidst widespread destruction, famine, and the collapse of basic infrastructure.

The Ministry has highlighted the insufficient medical aid entering Gaza, warning that it is inadequate to address the overwhelming needs of the population. Meanwhile, international resolutions, including a United Nations Security Council call for an immediate cessation of violence, and directives from the International Court of Justice to prevent genocide, continue to be ignored by the Israeli occupation.

This ongoing genocide has left Gaza in one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history, underscoring the urgent need for global intervention to restore healthcare services and protect the rights and lives of Gaza’s residents.
