The father of an Israeli soldier detained in Gaza has publicly condemned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring his intent to report him to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Nimrod Cohen’s father announced his plans to meet ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan in The Hague, accusing Netanyahu of war crimes not only in Gaza but also within Israel.
“Soldiers are dying because of this ongoing war, driven by Netanyahu's personal motives related to his trial,” he said. “He bears responsibility for genocide and war crimes committed both in Gaza and Israel.”
Recent reports from Israeli army radio revealed that the government has formed a ministerial team to address arrest warrants issued by the ICC against Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Galant. The team is reportedly exploring strategies to mitigate the repercussions of these warrants, including pressuring nations to withdraw from the ICC and the Rome Statute.
On November 21, the ICC issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Galant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity amid the genocide in Gaza that has raged since October 7, 2023. Israel’s concerns over the court’s decisions have intensified, particularly regarding their implications for the military and government officials.
