Israeli occupation police have been raiding the homes of Palestinian prisoners’ families in Jerusalem, issuing warnings against any celebrations upon their imminent release.
As part of a prisoner exchange deal, Israel is set to release a group of Palestinian detainees from East Jerusalem. In response, Israeli forces have stormed the homes of those expected to be freed, warning their families against holding any gatherings, celebrations, or welcoming visitors.
In addition to the raids, families of some prisoners have been summoned to police stations, where they were also warned against any public displays of joy.
One family expecting the release of their son reported being explicitly threatened by the occupation forces, who prohibited them from receiving well-wishers and warned of violent repercussions if they did. Out of fear, the family issued a statement apologising for not being able to welcome visitors.
Israeli forces have previously raided prisoners’ homes before their release, imposing similar restrictions on their families. Palestinian journalists have also been prevented from covering these events, with some being detained for questioning.
In a related incident, Israeli occupation police recently arrested several Palestinians, accusing them of celebrating the release of a prisoner.
