The Trump administration proposed relocating Palestinians from Gaza to Morocco, Puntland, and Somaliland, using US recognition as leverage. Morocco seeks recognition of its sovereignty over Western Sahara, while Somaliland and Puntland are not internationally recognised as independent. This controversial plan suggests neighbouring countries, including Egypt and Jordan, would accept displaced Palestinians, despite their firm opposition to forced displacement.
The plan has been widely condemned, especially by Palestine, the United Nations, and the Arab world, as it undermines the "two-state solution." Trump’s proposal also includes relocating 100,000 Palestinians to countries like Albania and Indonesia, which have been described as needing labour and incentives to absorb refugees.
In response to the plan, Spanish and Irish officials rejected suggestions by Israeli Minister Israel Katz, emphasising Gaza must remain part of a future Palestinian state. Spain, Ireland, and Norway have all recognised Palestine, and more than two-thirds of UN members already support Palestinian statehood.
