Al-Mabhouh described "Tora Bora" as secret isolation cells designed by the British during their occupation of Palestine. These are solitary confinement rooms made of reinforced concrete, containing a rough concrete bed where prisoners are tied down, almost naked, and subjected to continuous torture.
In an exclusive interview with Al-Resalah Net, al-Mabhouh explained that the administration of Megiddo Prison does not officially acknowledge these cells, which are controlled by Israel’s Shin Bet security agency.
He recounted seeing traces of blood in the cells, believed to belong to Palestinian prisoners from Gaza. "I strongly suspect that some of them were executed due to the sheer amount of blood spilled in those cells," he said.
Describing his own experience, al-Mabhouh revealed: "In these cells, no sound can be heard, no matter how much a prisoner screams. I was personally tortured there for four days after carrying out a stabbing attack in defense of Palestinian female prisoners. Every part of my body was tortured; my bones were shattered, and I lost most of my teeth."
He added, "The jailer would only say one thing: ‘You must die,’ and he did everything to make death as slow and painful as possible until you truly wished for it."
Al-Mabhouh also testified that Israeli forces severely beat and tortured Palestinian leaders Mohammad Arman and Nael Abu al-Nour Barghouthi, causing them to lose consciousness due to the intensity of the abuse.
Recalling his motivation for the attack, he said, "We used to hear about the suffering of our female prisoners, and it was more painful than the torture inflicted upon us. When the prison authorities escalated their abuses against them, I made a firm and decisive decision to take action and send a message to stop their crimes."
He continued, "I was subjected to severe torture, lost half my body weight, and my teeth. During my imprisonment, my brother was killed, then my other brother, and then my daughter Rania, who was only nine years old."
Al-Mabhouh recounted how Shin Bet officers would taunt him over his family’s deaths, especially after Israeli forces directly targeted their homes. "Each time, I told them, ‘We will never give up, we will never leave, and we will never sell out.’"
Concluding his testimony, he recalled his final encounter with a Shin Bet officer: "Even in my last moments there, he told me, ‘The eternal people never forget; we chase our enemies and capture them.’ I looked him in the eyes and replied, ‘See you in Gaza.’"
