Ceasefire Under Strain as Civilian Toll Rises and Aid Flow Falls Far Short of Commitments

A new monthly briefing from Gaza outlines a sustained pattern of ceasefire breaches throughout April 2026, with 377 recorded violations leading to 111 fatalities and 376 injuries. The figures are presented as evidence of a continued erosion of the agreement’s terms, with repeated incidents described as incompatible with international humanitarian norms and further undermining efforts to stabilise a situation already marked by severe human suffering amid the ongoing genocidal war.

Humanitarian indicators for the same period point to a significant shortfall in the implementation of agreed provisions. Out of 18,000 aid trucks expected to enter, only 4,503 were able to cross, while fuel deliveries reached just 187 out of 1,500 stipulated vehicles. Movement through crossings also remained heavily constrained, with 1,567 travellers recorded out of a planned 6,000. These restrictions have had a direct impact on essential services, particularly healthcare, water distribution, and electricity supply, deepening already acute living conditions.

The briefing further highlights what it describes as a systematic failure to uphold agreed obligations, calling for stronger enforcement mechanisms and renewed pressure from mediating and international actors to ensure full and unrestricted implementation of commitments. It stresses the urgency of allowing sustained humanitarian access, reopening movement corridors, and preventing further deterioration of civilian conditions under the ongoing genocidal war.
