Gaza Detainees Endure Systematic Abuse in Israeli Prisons

Recent testimonies from the Commission of Prisoners' Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club have unveiled the horrific conditions faced by Gaza detainees in Israeli prisons, including Sde Teiman camp and Negev prison. The accounts reveal a systematic pattern of torture, humiliation, and denial of basic human rights.

Detainees report severe physical abuse, including beatings, electrocution, and prolonged restraint in painful positions. Many suffer from untreated injuries and illnesses, with some losing teeth or hearing due to violent interrogations. Overcrowding, unsanitary conditions, and constant surveillance exacerbate their suffering.

Psychological torment is equally devastating. Detainees are isolated from their families, often unaware of their loved ones' fates. One prisoner, M.Y., believed his daughter had been killed until a rare visit revealed she was alive. Others endure prolonged blindfolding, handcuffing, and sensory abuse, such as blaring music during interrogations.

Even routine activities are weaponized. Outdoor time, meant as a brief respite, becomes another form of punishment, with detainees forced to kneel in silence under constant threats. The testimonies paint a grim picture of a system designed to dehumanize and break its prisoners.

The Commission warns that without urgent international intervention, more lives will be lost. Four detainees have already died in custody in recent weeks, highlighting the dire need for accountability and justice. These revelations demand immediate global action to end the abuse and uphold human rights.
