In a dramatic escalation, Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement and intensified its military operations in the Gaza Strip, killing more than 500 Palestinians and injuring hundreds more in just three days. This surge in violence comes alongside the complete closure of the Netzarim checkpoint, further isolating northern Gaza from the south and cutting off vital humanitarian aid since the start of Ramadan.
Over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza are now facing catastrophic conditions under relentless Israeli bombardment. Humanitarian aid has been entirely blocked, medical services have collapsed, and basic supplies of food and medicine are running dangerously low, raising fears of an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
Imad Abu Awad, an expert on Israeli affairs, commented on the situation, stating that the war shows no signs of ending soon. He emphasized that Israel is exploiting the escalation for both political and military gains. "What is happening cannot be seen as just a military operation," Abu Awad said. "The blockade, the obstruction of reconstruction, and attempts at forced displacement are all part of this ongoing war. Even the operations Israel plans to carry out in Gaza are part of this broader conflict."
The United States has reportedly given Israel the green light to resume its offensive, raising questions about whether this reflects a shift in American strategy or is merely a tool to pressure regional actors into meeting its objectives.
Abu Awad warned that Israel is not only expanding its operations in Gaza but also escalating tensions in the West Bank, Syria, and Lebanon. This multi-front aggression increases the risk of the conflict spiraling into a full-scale regional war, fueled by rising public anger and heightened regional tensions.
He concluded, "Even if Israel is negotiating under fire to recover captives and achieve internal gains, the war will not end. It will simply take on new forms and could escalate into a broader confrontation involving the entire region."
As the situation continues to deteriorate, the international community faces mounting pressure to intervene and prevent further loss of life and regional destabilization.
