MSF Condemns Israeli Attacks on Gaza and Urges Immediate Ceasefire Restoration

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has strongly condemned Israel’s recent brutal attacks on the Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate restoration of the ceasefire and an end to the "campaign of destruction and horrific bombardment." In a statement released on Wednesday, MSF’s Director-General, Claire Magoon, expressed outrage over the violence, which has shattered a nearly two-month-long ceasefire.

"Our staff are horrified by Israel’s attacks on the people of Gaza and are once again facing the overwhelming influx of mass casualties, many of whom are children," Magoon said. MSF teams in Gaza have treated hundreds of injured Palestinians, many of whom died upon arrival at medical facilities due to the severity of their wounds.

Magoon accused Israel of continuing its collective punishment of Gaza’s population, a tactic she said has been ongoing since October 2023 with the explicit support of its closest ally, the United States. She described the current bombardment as "unprecedented in intensity since the early stages of the war," condemning the killing, wounding, and forced displacement of Palestinians over the past 15 months of conflict.

MSF warned that Israel’s recent attacks and evacuation orders could signal the start of a new phase of military operations in Gaza. "The people of Gaza cannot endure another military operation, physically or psychologically. Their hopes for rebuilding even a fraction of their lives are being shattered," Magoon stated.

The organization called for an immediate end to the blockade on Gaza, demanding unrestricted access to essential supplies and humanitarian aid. It also urged Israel to allow injured and sick Palestinians to travel for urgent medical treatment, ensuring their right to a safe and dignified return.

Since Tuesday, Israel has intensified its airstrikes on Gaza, targeting civilians and resulting in 404 deaths and over 562 injuries, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The Government Information Office reported that 174 children, 89 women, and 32 elderly individuals were among those killed on Tuesday alone.

MSF’s condemnation highlights the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the urgent need for international action to halt the violence and address the suffering of civilians caught in the crossfire.
