The humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza is deepening as Israeli forces maintain a suffocating blockade, cutting off essential supplies and forcing bakeries to shut down. With crossings closed for over a month, food shortages have reached crisis levels, leaving more than two million Palestinians on the brink of famine.
Bread, once a basic necessity, has become a luxury. The Gaza Bakeries Association confirmed that nearly all bakeries have stopped operating due to the depletion of flour, fuel, and cooking gas. Before the blockade, bakeries played a crucial role in feeding the population, especially those in displacement shelters. Now, with half of them destroyed and the rest unable to function, hunger is spreading at an alarming rate.
The World Food Programme has warned that the situation is "catastrophic," as families queue for hours in desperate search of food. Hospitals, already overwhelmed with war casualties, are struggling to keep malnourished children alive. Humanitarian organizations have called for urgent intervention, but Israel continues to block aid deliveries, weaponizing starvation against Gaza’s civilians.
As hunger tightens its grip, the international community remains silent. Without immediate action to open crossings and allow food and medical supplies in, Gaza faces an unfolding disaster that could claim countless lives.
