Deliberate Starvation: Gaza Left to Die Under Tightened Israeli Siege

Palestinians in Gaza are now enduring one of the darkest chapters in modern history, as starvation is weaponised alongside daily bombardments. The Israeli government has made no secret of its intentions. Statements from Israeli leaders, including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who declared that not a single grain of wheat would be allowed into the besieged enclave, are a chilling reflection of a calculated policy to crush the civilian population through hunger.

Since March 2, Israel has completely sealed off Gaza’s border crossings, cutting off the entry of food, medicine, fuel, and all forms of humanitarian relief. What was once a slow strangulation has turned into full-scale deprivation. Entire communities are now surviving on little more than scraps, with children, the elderly, and the sick most at risk. International organisations have warned of “famine-like conditions”, yet the global response remains shamefully mute.

Gaza’s health authorities report 1,391 deaths and over 3,400 injuries since the breakdown of the ceasefire on March 18. But numbers alone cannot convey the depth of the suffering. Bombing continues daily, striking homes, shelters, and even food distribution centres. In Khan Younis, seven civilians were killed simply for queueing at a charity kitchen. It was not the first such attack—and it will not be the last, unless something changes.

The silence of the international community in the face of this humanitarian collapse is deafening. While the United Nations and aid agencies issue warnings, those responsible for the blockade face no consequences. For the people of Gaza, hunger is now another front in a war designed to erase them—not just physically, but from the conscience of the world.
