Gaza on the Brink: WFP Warns of Imminent Humanitarian Collapse Amid Starvation Crisis

The World Food Programme (WFP) has sounded a harrowing alarm over the deepening crisis in Gaza, where nearly two million people — the majority displaced — are now facing severe hunger and complete dependency on humanitarian aid. With border crossings closed and aid blocked, the WFP warns that the territory is on the edge of a humanitarian catastrophe.

In its urgent statements, the WFP painted a grim picture of Gaza’s reality: food stocks are nearly depleted, and families have no income or access to essentials. The ongoing Israeli blockade has crushed the economy and crippled the flow of life-saving supplies, pushing food insecurity to record levels.

“Without immediate, uninterrupted access for aid deliveries, we are looking at the total collapse of families’ ability to feed themselves,” the agency warned. The blockade has not only prevented food from entering Gaza, but also halted medicine, fuel, and clean water supplies, compounding an already unbearable situation.

The WFP described the living conditions as catastrophic. Access to clean water, electricity, and medical care is virtually nonexistent. With no jobs or livelihoods, families are forced to rely entirely on dwindling aid, while humanitarian organisations struggle to meet the overwhelming need.

“This is about more than just food,” a WFP representative stated. “It’s about dignity, hope, and the right to survive. People in Gaza are being pushed to the brink — and the world must not look away.”

If the current siege continues, the WFP fears a sharp spike in malnutrition, especially among children, who are already vulnerable. Rising hunger, combined with an overstretched healthcare system, could lead to a devastating rise in deaths.

The agency called on the international community to act immediately. “We cannot remain silent while millions are forced into starvation. Gaza needs sustained, unhindered humanitarian access — now.”
