Turkey has sharply condemned the use of hunger as a weapon against Palestinians in Gaza, as the humanitarian catastrophe in the besieged enclave deepens. Speaking at a press conference in Ankara alongside his Norwegian counterpart, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the situation as “unacceptable” and warned against using starvation as a means of political coercion.
Fidan stressed that Gaza has endured more than fifty days of a brutal blockade, with food and humanitarian supplies systematically denied entry. He called for immediate international action, insisting that depriving an entire population of basic necessities must never be tolerated or normalised.
The crisis in Gaza has worsened dramatically since Israeli forces tightened their closure on the territory in early March, cutting off essential aid to a population already pushed to the brink. Despite growing global alarm, the blockade remains in place, forcing Palestinian families to endure unimaginable suffering under collective punishment.
While reaffirming Ankara’s broader regional commitments, including support for Turkic states and Turkish Cypriots, Fidan made it clear that the unfolding tragedy in Gaza demands urgent and unified international intervention before more lives are lost to hunger and neglect.
