Gaza is teetering on the edge of mass death as the Israeli siege enters its seventh week, with no relief in sight. The Government Media Office has issued a stark warning: famine is no longer a distant threat, but an urgent reality that has already claimed lives, particularly among the region’s children. Over 2.4 million Palestinians are enduring the worst humanitarian crisis in decades, with hunger and malnutrition spreading rapidly.
Since the blockade’s intensification, 52 people, including 50 children, have died from starvation. More than 60,000 children in Gaza are severely malnourished, while millions more face daily hunger. For many families, it is no longer possible to provide even a single meal, let alone enough to sustain their children.
The situation is compounded by the collapse of Gaza’s infrastructure. Hospitals, already overwhelmed, have been forced to close as a result of Israeli airstrikes and shelling, while more than 90% of water facilities have ceased to function due to fuel shortages. With bakeries closed, there is no bread to be had, and the entry of vital supplies has been blocked for nearly two months.
This is not a natural disaster; it is a manufactured catastrophe. The Government Media Office has condemned the "systematic crime of starvation" carried out by the Israeli occupation, holding Israel fully responsible for the suffering in Gaza. The silence from the international community is deafening, as global powers—especially the United States, Britain, Germany, and France—remain complicit in the ongoing violence, offering little more than diplomatic rhetoric.
Urgent calls are being made for an immediate humanitarian corridor to deliver life-saving aid to the people of Gaza, as well as for international investigations into the deliberate starvation and slow killings taking place. The media office warns that any further delay in action will be seen as complicity in a crime that will leave a permanent stain on humanity.
