Gaza’s children are starving under a deliberate and brutal blockade imposed by Israeli forces, the UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, warned in a stark statement. “This is not the result of a natural disaster or logistical failure,” he wrote on the X platform. “It is a man-made catastrophe, driven by clear political motives.”
Since March 2, Gaza has been under total siege, with all crossings sealed and the entry of food, medicine, and basic humanitarian supplies completely blocked. As the blockade enters its second month, the humanitarian collapse deepens, with aid agencies warning of famine on an unprecedented scale.
The World Food Programme announced on Friday that its food stocks in Gaza are now entirely exhausted. The last supplies were distributed to community kitchens, but even these lifelines will run out within days. “For over seven weeks, not a single truck of humanitarian or commercial goods has entered the Strip,” WFP stated, warning that without immediate action, aid operations will grind to a halt.
The Government Media Office in Gaza condemned the blockade, warning that over 2.4 million people now face imminent starvation. "This is the longest and most severe blockade in Gaza’s history," it said, "and the world continues to watch in silence."
Despite repeated international appeals, Lazzarini confirmed that efforts to reopen the crossings have been ignored. Humanitarian organisations and the UN continue to demand the immediate and unconditional opening of all crossings to avert further catastrophe and save civilian lives.
